Best Robot Vacuum of 2026: Shark, Eufy

WIRED

I've recently introduced a few friends to the power of a great robot vacuum. One of my friends calls hers a marriage saver, while the other was both thrilled and horrified by how many stains the vacuum's AI found on her floors. Personally, my robot vacuums keep me from wanting to set the litter box on fire, since my cat is on a mission to create his own navigational trail of litter through my home. The best robot vacuums these days aren't just vacuuming your floors, nor are they blindly bumping around your house like they used to. These gadgets are mopping, scrubbing away stains, lifting themselves off of obstacles, and even reminding you to clean the dirtier areas in your home more frequently. A good robot vacuum can cost a pretty penny, but it doesn't have to, depending on what you're looking for. I've been testing every new robot vacuum I can in my three-story home filled with three adults, a preschooler, and a cat who's on a mission to get litter all over the house.

That includes our current best robot vacuum, which is last year's Eufy X10 Pro Omni .

Tesla unveils new lower-cost Model Y amid rising competition

Al Jazeera

Tesla unveiled more affordable versions of its best-selling Model Y SUV and its Model 3 sedan at $39,990 and $36,990, respectively, as the electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer seeks to reverse falling sales and waning market share amid rising competition. The EV maker announced its new models on Tuesday. Late last year, Musk said the vehicle would be priced below the "key threshold" of $30,000, including US EV tax credits. In the United States, prices effectively rose by $7,500 at the end of last month, when the EV tax credit ended. That helped goose quarterly sales to a record, but expectations are that they will slow down for the rest of the year, unless the affordable car comes to the rescue.

Do LED masks work? What the science says.

Popular Science

With an eerie, robot-like appearance and an otherworldly glow when worn, those LED masks all over your FYP give off a science-fiction vibe. Fittingly, it was researchers with NASA who discovered the potential for medical light therapy to treat wounds, arthritis, glaucoma and other ailments in the 1990s. By the early 2000s, that LED light therapy was growing in popularity at dermatology offices where patients donned an LED mask or used similar devices to slow aging and treat acne. And now that technology has trickled down to our homes. Brands like Omnilux and Dr. Gross have popularized direct-to-consumer LED masks that are safe to use regularly in the privacy of your own home, available at a range of price points (from under 100 to nearly 500).

The next generation of PC graphics will kick off at CES 2025

PCWorld

The graphics card hype train left the station weeks before CES 2025 kicks off in early January, with the launch of Intel's 249 Arc B580 – the GPU we've begged for since the pandemic. But make no mistake: Intel decided to launch its second-gen Arc in December because CES is shaping up to be an absolute banger for graphics card releases. Nvidia is already teasing an RTX 50-series announcement at CEO Jensen Huang's keynote, while the rumor mill claims AMD's new Radeon cards will also make an appearance at the show. Yes, friends, after a disappointing few years for graphics cards, the next generation of gaming goodness should be unveiled at CES 2025 and Nvidia, AMD, and Intel look ready to brawl. Let's start with Nvidia's hotly anticipated GeForce RTX 50-series, because the company is already actively, not-so-slyly teasing it.

In 2024, the camera of the year was a drone

Engadget

Aside from the global shutter on Sony's A9 III and some cool mirrorless options -- the Fujifilm X100 VI, Panasonic S9 and Canon EOS R5 II come to mind -- 2024 was a dull year for cameras full of small tweaks and minor improvements. For 200, aerial photography is now finally in reach for just about anyone. DJI released its product lineup this year with a sword of Damocles hanging over its head: the US government was planning to ban sales of the company's products by the end of 2024 over potential fears of spying. It was only at the last minute that DJI gained a reprieve, thanks in large part to lobbying by public safety groups that heavily rely on its drones. It now has until the end of 2025 to prove that its products don't pose a risk.

Meta Connect 2024: Cheaper Quest 3S, AI, AR and everything else you can expect at the metaverse event

Engadget

In the past, the biggest AR/VR event of the year has been known alternately as Oculus Connect and then Facebook Connect. Much like last year, we can likely predict the biggest news coming out of Meta Connect 2024 with just two acronyms: AI and AR. Like every other big tech firm this year, Meta will be desperate to demonstrate how it plans to stay relevant in a future powered by AI. And now that we're seven months beyond the launch of Apple's Vision Pro, which arrived alongside a short-lived spike in interest in augmented reality (AR), Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is likely eager to show off his own plans to make AR a reality. While Zuckerberg isn't as hot on the metaverse as he was when he renamed his company, the union of AI and AR is one way he can still make the dream of persistent virtual worlds come true.

It used to go by at least two different names -- Oculus Connect and then Facebook Connect -- but whatever the moniker, Meta's fall event is still a big showcase for the company's latest and greatest achievements in the virtual reality and mixed reality space.
